A Postal Index Number or PIN Code or Pincode is the post office or post code system used by India Post. IndiaPost is one of the largest postal system owned by Government of India. It has more than 1.5lac post offices across India and reaches every nook and corner of India. Indiapost has come out with Pin code which is 6 digits long and is used to identify areas, villages across India. First Two Digits identify a State, next the district and the last three digits identify the Post Office in the State. Pincode system was introduced in India on 15 August in the year 1972.
